Description:
Sycamore Canyon is in the low parts of the Santa Monica mountains, and this is a loop that'll bring us through 11 miles of beautiful scenery. While there's not much ascent, this is a long hike, so beginners probably should not try it.
I'll leave the trail description to Modern Hiker (linked below), but from the pictures on his site, it should be an amazing hike.
We'll leave at 8:00 AM, and drive out to the Thousand Oaks area. This will take about an hour. From there, we should be able to finish in less than 6 hours (there are also plenty of options for shorter hikes), and then head back to Caltech. Due to the distance involved, we'll be asking people to contribute $6 for the trip.
I would recommend bringing lunch and appropriate snacks with you. The current forecast in Thousands Oaks is calling for a high of 79 degrees. However, Modern Hiker warns that there are ticks (a good part of the loop will be grassland), so long pants are advisable. As always, hiking boots would be helpful to have.
Please e-mail me by Friday evening, and include if you'll be able to drive (and how many passengers you will be able to take).
