Description:
Bailey Canyon is a park in Sierra Madre. We'll be going up to the cabin ruins there that were originally built by Throop Polytechnic (one of the earlier names for Caltech) students in 1910. There's also an option to continue up to Jones Peak afterwards for an additional 2 miles and 800 feet gain.
If you're interested in going, please e-mail Christine by Friday morning and include whether you can drive. We shouldn't need to eat lunch, but small snacks are certainly a good idea.

After-hike Report:
Seven brave souls came out to endure the blistering heat and steep inclines of last Sunday's trip to Bailey Canyon. We were rewarded with some stunning views of nearby Sierra Madre, CA and the rest of the LA Basin. All of us made it to the Old Foundation- the ruins of two cabins built by Caltech students in 1910, and a small group made it all the way to Jones Peak! We even met some amusing characters on the trail, including a stand-up comedian who performs at the Icehouse in Pasadena (he called us all "nerds"), and Rocky, an adorable dog who tried to adopt us (much to his owner's amusement). After the hike, we ventured to Cold Stone Creamery in downtown Sierra Madre to reward ourselves after our difficult climb (and to escape the heat).
